Amazon's CEO-Jeff Benzos introduced the company's first hot tablet computer-Kindle Fire on the new product presentation on September 28th, 2011. Kindle Fire only sells for US$199(about HK$1580), which is deemed to be the most powerful competitor of Ipad, even better than Samsung's Galaxy and Blackberry's playbook.

1)Technical Features

1.Hardware: Kindle Fire has a 7-inches multi-touch display with IPS (in-plane switching) technology, 1024 x 600 pixel resolution at 169 ppi, 16 million colors, 14.6 ounces, which is smaller and lighter than Ipad. It not only does not have camera and microphone, but also the connection to 3G and Bluetooth, only supporting public and private Wi-Fi networks(B / G / N). In the battery life, Kindle Fire is up to 8 hours of continuous reading or 7.5 hours of video playback, 2 hours fewer than Ipad. Not as the 3 versions(16G, 32G, 64G) of Ipad2, Kindle Fire only has a version with 8GB internal storage. 

2.Software: Kindle Fire choose to become a group member of Google Android system camp, using Android 2.3 operating system that also means it supports to play flash, which is still not achieved on Ipad2. Amazon Silk is a web browser developed for Kindle Fire, based on the Webkit browser engine like Apple's Safari and Google's Chrome. The users can download more than 3,800 apps from Amazon Appstore which was opened on March 22th, 2011.

3.Service: The Amozon content libarary provides 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, magazines, and books. What is more, users have an unlimited and free cloud storage for all Amazon content. Nevertheless, the cloud storages of Ipad2, Galaxy, Playbook are 5GBfree, 1GB, 1GB, respectively.

2)Commercial Potentials

It is said that when Amazon sells a Kindle Fire, it will lose US$50, which means the more Kindle Fire Amazon sells, the more money it will lose. Hence many persons perhaps begin to doubt how Amazon profit from the new product. Some in industry think Amazon resort to make a profit through the selling of contents(books, apps, etc.). As we all know Amazon has the enormous e-book store, whose electronic shopping center provides miscellaneous contents. And Amazon has over 200 million steady consumers mainly in the United States, Europe, and Japan. In my opinion, the release of Kindle Fire will definitely strengthen the mucosity of consumers. The 200 million and some potential consumers' expenditure on books, apps, films and something like that is the most significant source of income.

3)Will Kindle Fire bring concussion to us?

1.Kindle Fire may change the existing situation of industry.

Up to now, the tablet market has divided into Apple IOS and Google Android camps on operating system. According to the data of IDC, the market share of Ipad2 has reached 68% in the second quarter of 2011, whereas that of Android was 27%. Before Kindle Fire every tablet computer of course wants to compete with Ipad and grab the market share of Ipad. Unfortunately, no one succeed because of the failure of reduation of cost, so as to product has no competitive advantage in sale price. The super low price of Kindle fire will bring about impact on Ipad, but also have  severe impact on other Android system tablet company. The original Android consumers who are in the middle may flow away to both sides of Ipad or Kindle Fire.

On the other hand, comparing with Apple, Amazon's profit model via selling content has been considered to be a new attempt in industry. Moreover, the distribution model is absolutely different from each other. Apple depends highly on the hypostatic shop all over the world. Nevertheless, Amazon is the biggest network retail merchant. It's still difficulty to tell who will emerge victorious between the two different kind model of profit and sale.

2.Better user experience and more options.

One of shining point if Kindle Fire is actually the free and unlimited cloud storage. A lot of game or film consumers need a larger internal storage choosing an Ipad. However, the price of 32G, 64G version is relatively high comparing with that of Kindle Fire. Undoubtedly, Amazon is the biggest scale in cloud storage among all of the companies, with the pretty excellent quality of quality.

4 years ago, with the release of Kindle, Amazon drived a fashion trend of E-reading. It's not unique that Ipad was deemed to be a revolutionary product since January of 2010. In the contrast of construction of books, Amazon is definitely the leader of the market, although Apple also attached importance to it with few effect. 

Therefore, we have the reason to believe that Kindle Fire render more people prefer E-reading. At the same time, entertainment and social networking service could run in a palm sizedl machine. If the Amazon Appstore can provide more and outstanding apps , why not consumers choose Kindle Fire which is much cheaper than other products. 

4)Improvements

1.Android is an double-edged sword.

In the respect of compatibility, Android is much better than that of Apple IOS. But owing to the open of source code, the guarantee of security is much lower than that of IOS, which lead to a high rate of malfunction and repair. This is an inevitable question for all the users of Android at the present stage.

2.Amazon Appstore is independent of Android Market.

Although the number of apps in Android Market is not fewer than that of Apple Store, Amazon Appstore is totally different from Android Market, which needs unique developers to support it. For one thing, it was reported that there was conflict between Amazon and developers about the app price. For another, Amazon Appstore is currently only available in the US and no official announcements have been made about increasing availability to other regions.

3.The Android system on Kindle Fire is early version.

I am always wonder why the Android system on Kindle Fire is version 2.3. Generally speaking, the application of Android system on tablet computer is at least version 3.0.

To sum up, due to its shortage of hardware like no cameras, no microphone, no 3G module etc. Kindle Fire is more likely a transition product from E-book to tablet computer. No matter whether it can be the most powerful competitor of Ipad, it will definitely have a significant influence on industry and consumers.
